Duct Tape Dummy
Ostern ist im Hause AnnaRose mehr ein schoenes langes Wochenende. So habe ich die Zeit genutzt und ueber’s Wochenende einen Workshop mitgemacht, in dem es um das Anpassen von Anleitungen an die eigenen Koerpermaße ging. Ein Teil dieses Workshops beinhaltete das Erschaffen eines “Abdrucks” in Form von duct tape, das auf ein altes T-Shirt geklebt wird. Die ganze Prozedur hat ein bisschen was von Korsett-Tragen und je nachdem wie ehrlich man vorher zu sich war, kann das auch ein bisschen schockierend sein, wenn man das mal so in 3D vor sich sieht 😉 Das Ding haengt jetzt erstmal im Gaestezimmer im Schrank, denn im normalen Kleiderschrank nimmt es ja doch einiges an Platz weg. Der Rest des Kurses lehrte uns, worauf man bei Anleitungen achten sollte sowie die ganze Rumrechnerei, um abweichende Maschenproben und Koerpermaße unterzubringen. Einiges war Wiederholung & Auffrischung fuer mich, anderes, wie z.B. das Stricken von verkuerzten Reihen um mehr Platz an der Oberweite zu haben, neu bzw. ich hatte davon gehoert, aber keinen Plan wie es am besten umzusetzen ist. Der Kurs hat mir gut gefallen und ich habe daraus auch die Neuberechnung meines “Inglewood” Pullovers mitgenommen, der bald bis zu den Achsel aufgetrennt und (zum wiederholten Male) neu gestrickt wird. Ich denke, der Kurs hat mir viel gebracht und ich hab’ gedanklich schon mindestens 3 neue Pullover angefangen und 2 alte aufgetrennt 😉 Jetzt werde ich aber erstmal im Bett verschwinden, denn Ostermontag ist in Canada kein Feiertag, an dem man zuhause bleiben kann.
Easter is a nice long weekend in our house. I used the time and took a weekend workshop about fitting your knits. One part of the workshop was creating a “real life copy” with duct tape that is taped on an old t-shirt. The procedure reminded me of wearing a corsett and depending how honest you’re with yourself before it could be a bit shocking to “see” your real measurements. My dummy hangs in the closet in the guest room for now. The other parts of the workshops were about what to check in a pattern and how to recalculate to consider different gauges and measurements. Some of it was refreshment for me, other stuff like the knitting of short rows to add fabric over the full bust was either new or I heard about it before but didn’t have a plan how to use. The workshop was very interesting and my practical work was the recalculation of my “Inglewood” sweater that I’ll frog up to the armpits and re-knit (once again). I think I got a lot out of this class and in my mind I already casted on for at least 3 new sweaters and frogged 2 old ones 😉

Handgefaerbtes & Ravelympics / handdyed stuff & Ravelympics
Ich bin natuerlich auch nicht an den Ravelympics vorbeigekommen und mache mit. Mein olympisches Projekt ist “Slipped Hours” von Gudrun Johnson. Ich verstricke mein selbstgefaerbtes Garn von einer der letzten Faerbeaktionen und hoffe, dass ich genug habe. Viel sieht man noch nicht und ich bin mir auch nicht sicher, ob ich es wirklich bis Sonntagabend schaffe, aber ich bin guter Dinge. Selbst wenn ich es nicht bis zur Abschlusszeremonie schaffe, waere das mein “schnellster” Pullover bisher.
I couldn’t avoid the Ravelympics too and I’m participating. My olympic project is “Slipped Hours” from Gudrun Johnson. I’m knitting my own handdyed yarn from one of the last dye sessions and hope that I will have enough yarn to finish. There is not much to see yet and I’m not sure if I actually can finish it until Sunday but even if I don’t it will be my “fastest” sweater up to date.
Norah is going Elsewhere… finally she arrived
Schon vor einigen Wochen hatte ich “Norah” fertiggestellt. Nachdem ich mich nicht entscheiden konnte, welche Farbe ich stricken moechte, faerbte ich ein paar Straenge dunkelrot und stellte nun am eigenen Leib fest, dass es unmoeglich ist, mehrere Faerbedurchgaenge gleich hinzubekommen:
I finished “Norah” already a few weeks ago. After I couldn’t decide which colour I want to knit I dyed a few skeins in a dark red and realized for myself that it is impossible to dye different dye lots with the same results:

The colours are quite true on the last picture. Red is a hard colour to take pictures.
Ich habe eine ganze Weile daran gestrickt, obwohl die Anleitung eigentlich relativ einfach ist, aber manchmal braucht man halt ein bisschen laenger… Um die Farb- und Lauflaengenunterschiede der einzelnen Straenge auszugleichen, habe ich mit 2 Knaeulen abwechselnd gestrickt. Das hat ganz gut funktioniert. Ich habe ausserdem ein paar kleine Aenderungen vorgenommen, indem ich eine Taillierung eingestrickt und die Umrandung aus dem Ganzen gestrickt habe, aber seht selbst:
It took quite a bit of time to knit this, even with a relatively easy pattern but sometimes things just take time… For dealing with the differences in dye lot and gauge I alternated 2 balls and it worked fine. I also made some modifications like knitting darts and I did knit the edge all in one piece, but look and see:
Am Samstag bin ich mit Kathleen auf der Millarville Country Fair gewesen und habe viele Komplimente und einige Anfragen bekommen, ob ich die Jacke verkaufen wuerde. Das hat mich erstaunt und gefreut, aber hergeben werd’ ich meine Jacke nicht 🙂
Last Saturday I was with Kathleen at the Millarville Country Fair (actually I don’t really know this kind of fair from Germany, it’s new to me) and I got a lot of compliments and actually some people asked if I would sell it. I was suprised and really happy about it but there is no way that I could sell it, I’ll definitely keep my cardigan 🙂

Aber eigentlich hatte ich mich gestern abend schon entschieden, denn ich musste ja anfangen, das Garn zu faerben, wenn ich heute bei der Cast On Party im M1 auch anschlagen wollte.
Actually I already decided last night because I had to choose a color for dyeing if I wanted to join the Cast On Party at M1 today.
Ich habe mich tatsaechlich (erstmal) fuer rot entschieden und dass aus verschiedenen Gruenden:
- Ich bin nochmal meine Queue bei Ravelry durchgegangen und habe ueberlegt, welche der Strickjacken, die noch auf meiner Tapetenrolle stehen, ich mir wirklich in rot vorstellen koennte. Es waren nicht sehr viele.
- Da ich die Jacke aus handgesponnener Wolle stricke, werde ich sie wohl nicht so oft tragen wie den Ribby Cardi, damit sie nicht so schnell pillt und laenger haelt
- rot laesst sich einfacher mit schwarz ueberfaerben als schwarz mit rot 😉
Actually I decided for red with different reasons:
- I looked in my Ravelry queue and which cardigans on it I really could imagine in red. They weren’t much to count.
- Since I’ll knit it with handspun yarn I won’t wear as often as I wear my Ribby Cardi to be sure it doesn’t start pilling so fast.
- It is way easier to overdye red with black instead black with red.
Gefaerbt habe ich am Freitagabend allerdings ein dunkleres Rot als ich hier gezeigt hatte, da es mir nicht gelungen ist, dieses nachzufaerben bzw. ich den Fehler gemacht hatte, den Versuch auf Kammzug zu faerben, der Farbe natuerlich ganz anders annimmt als Garn. Ich habe zwei Durchgaenge hintereinander gefaerbt und die gleiche Farbzusammenstellung genommen. Trotzdem sind beide so unterschiedlich geworden und ich kann mir nicht ganz genau erklaeren, woran es liegt. Bloederweise gefaellt mir der Strang aus dem 2. Durchgang noch besser und ich weiss noch nicht genau, ob ich das wieder so hinkriege und es nachfaerben koennte.
I dyed Friday night and I did a darker red than I showed in this post because I couldn’t re-dye it in the way or better I made the mistake to try the re-dye on roving instead of yarn which always turns out in a different way than yarn does. I did 2 dye lots with the same colour mixture and the second lot is a lot different from the first one. I can’t really explain it but unfortunately I like this skein better. I have to try if I can re-dye it.

Eine Maschenprobe mit dem Garn aus dem 1. Durchgang habe ich auch schon gestrickt und mir gefaellt es sehr gut wie es verstrickt aussieht.
I already knitted a gauge swatch with the yarn from the first lot and I really like it how it knits up.

Wie wuerden Sie entscheiden? / poll
Da es hier auf WordPress.com ein nettes Umfrage-Spielzeug gibt, teste ich das gleich mal und starte eine Umfrage 🙂 Ich spinne immer noch fleissig das Garn fuer “Norah is going Elsewhere” und habe mich immer noch nicht fuer eine Farbe entschieden. Jeder, mit dem ich mich darueber unterhalte, sagt was anderes 😉
There is a nice poll toy on WordPress.com and I have to try it 🙂 I’m still spinning the yarn for “Norah is going Elsewhere” and still don’t have decided for a color. I talked with a lot of people about it and everybody says something different.
