Nachdem die Haeschen aus diesem Post leider nicht durchgekommen sind, haben wir nun letzte Woche unser aktuelles Hasenbaby entdeckt. Der Holzwurm hatte es beim Giessen versehentlich geduscht und es sprang aus dem Busch raus, in dem es sich versteckt hatte. Dieses Mal ist es offensichtlich nur ein Baby, aber deswegen nicht weniger niedlich.
Unfortunately the baby bunnies in this post didn’t make it but last weekend we discovered that we have a baby bunny again. The woodworm showered it while watering the backyard and it came out of the bush where it was hiding. It looks like that this time it’s only one baby bunny but it’s cute anyways.

Ich glaube, die Socken sind etwas zu leuchtend fuer meinen Alltag. Sie werden wohl bei Gelegenheit das Innenleben meiner Stiefel ausleuchten 😉
I think they are pretty bright for my everyday life. They will light up the inside of my boots some time 😉
Vor ein paar Wochen hatte Irisine ein Paar Socken zur Adoption freigegeben und ich habe sie adoptiert. Der Zeitpunkt war aeusserst guenstig, denn meine Schwiegereltern brachten mir die Socken Anfang Juli mit. Vielen lieben Dank, Irisine! Sie passen wie angegossen und die Unterschiedlichkeit stoert kein bisschen 🙂
A few weeks ago Irisine gave a pair of socks up for adoption and I adopted them. It was a pretty good time because my In-laws just came for a visit in July and brought the socks with them. Thank you very much, Irisine! They fit very well and I like how different they are 🙂
Ende Juni besuchte ich mit Kathleen die Fibre Week in Olds und wir machten ein Kurs ueber Pflanzenfaerberei mit.
Gefaerbt haben wir mit Goldrute und Waid, gebeizt mit Alaun. Die beiden blauen Straenge sind Waidfaerbungen mit den frischen Blaettern. Der dunklere Strang wurde 2x ins Faerbebad gelegt. Die kleinen Straenge sind von links nach rechts: Goldrute pur, Goldrute ueberfaerbt mit Waid, Waidsamen und getrocknete Waidblaetter.
Mir gefallen diese Farben alle, obwohl sie ueberhaupt nicht in mein Farbschema passen. Ich glaube, ich habe mir den Virus eingefangen 😉
At the end of June Kathleen and I went to Olds to visit the Fibre Week. We took a class for Natural Dyeing.
We dyed with goldenrod and woad. The mordant was alum. The 2 blue skeins are dyed with the fresh woad leaves, the darker skein was in the dye bath twice. The small skeins are from left to right: pure goldenrod, goldenrod overdyed with woad, woad seeds, and dried woad leaves.
I really like these colours even they are totally not my colour scheme. I think, I’m hooked 😉
In unserem Haus sind ja keine Haustiere erlaubt, aber das heisst ja nicht, dass man nicht draussen “Haustiere” haben kann. Wie schon an dem alten Haus geht es auch hier wieder tierisch zu. Uns besucht taeglich ein Hasenpaar. Manchmal sitzt einer davon unter der Terassentreppe. Das Bild ist etwas aelter, mittlerweile haben die Hasen ihr Winterfell abgelegt und sind wieder braun.
There are no pets allowed in our house that we’re renting now but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have “pets” around the house. We saw a lot of animals at our old place and so is it with our new place too. Everyday there is a couple of rabbits that visits us. Sometimes one of it is sitting below the stairs of our patio. This is an older picture. In the meantime they shed their winter fur and are brown again.
Today we came home from work and after a little while we wanted to go shopping and found this under our car:

Am Samstag waren wir das zweite Mal bei der Schafschur dabei. Diesmal war es anfangs ziemlich windig und wir sind nicht ganz so lange geblieben wie beim ersten Mal. Ich habe die beiden Vliese, die ich mir reservieren lassen hatte, und noch ein drittes, bei dem ich nicht widerstehen konnte, mitgenommen.
Last Saturday we were at the sheep shearing a second time. This time it was pretty windy at the beginning and we weren’t as long as last week. I picked up the two fleeces for which were spoken for me and another one which I couldn’t resist buying.

Von den Vliesen der letzten Woche, Columbia und Cotswold, habe ich bereits einige Fasern gewaschen und angesponnen. Ich habe mit der Handspindel gesponnen und es hat das erste Mal richtig gut funktioniert (ich habe damals gleich mit dem Spinnrad angefangen).
I already washed and spun a few fibres of the two fleeces from last week, the Columbia and the Cotswold. I tried spinning with a spindle and it was the first time that the spinning with a handspindle worked out for me 🙂Â

Ausserdem ist die Wolle fuer “Norah is going Elsewhere” fertig gesponnen, so dass ich mich bald ans Faerben machen kann. Am Wochenende habe ich eine Version der Jacke gesehen, die mir sehr gut gefallen hat und die mir erlauben wuerde, beide Rotvarianten zu verwenden 🙂
I also finished spinning the yarn for “Norah is going Elsewhere” so I can start dyeing. Last weekend I saw a version of the jacket that I really liked and which would allow me to use both red versions 🙂
Heute sind wir zusammen mit Kathleen zur Sommer Farm in Crossfield, nur eine gute halbe Stunde Autofahrt entfernt, gefahren, trafen noch mehr Freunde und haben fast den ganzen Tag damit verbracht, Schafe auszusuchen, denen man an die Wolle moechte, beim Scheren zuzuschauen, die Vliese zu sortieren, Katzen und Hunde streicheln, gruene Grashalme zu entdecken (Fruehling!) und sich den ersten Sonnenbrand des Jahres zu holen.
Today we went together with Kathleen to the Sommer Farm in Crossfield, just half an hour driving away from home, met more friends and spent almost the whole day with picking the sheep from which we wanted the wool, watching the shearing, skirting fleeces, cuddling cats and dogs, discover some green grass (Spring!) and getting the first sunburn of the year.

“Guck’, ich bin n*ckig!” / “Look, I’m n*ked!”
Mir gefaellt der Gedanke, dass das Schaf, dessen Wolle ich verarbeiten werde, einen Namen hat. Die Schafzuechterin als auch die Schererin spinnen beide selbst und es ist immer wieder schoen zu sehen, dass andere genauso so fuehlen und denken, wenn’s um Wolle geht.
I like the thought that the sheep whose wool I’ll process has actually a name. The sheep farmer and the shearer are both spinners and it’s always nice to see that others feel the same when it comes to wool.
Naechsten Samstag ist der 2. Termin fuer’s Schafe scheren auf dieser Farm und dann geht es dem Rest an die Wolle. Ich werde wieder hinfahren und mir dieses Mal das Vlies eines grauen Shetlandschafes (Shauna?) und eines multicolour-grauen Islandschafes (Name ist mir noch unbekannt) mitbringen. Denkt Ihr, ich bin verrueckt? Nein, ich denke nicht, dass ich verrueckt bin. Ich bin nur high, high in fiber 😉
Next Saturday is the second day for the shearing at the farm and all left sheep will be shorn. I’ll be there again and this time I’ll pick up a grey Shetland sheep fleece (Shauna?) and a multicolour greyish Icelandic sheep (I don’t know the name yet). Do you think I’m crazy? No, I don’t think I am. I’m just high, high in fiber 😉

Aber eigentlich hatte ich mich gestern abend schon entschieden, denn ich musste ja anfangen, das Garn zu faerben, wenn ich heute bei der Cast On Party im M1 auch anschlagen wollte.Â

Ich habe mich tatsaechlich (erstmal) fuer rot entschieden und dass aus verschiedenen Gruenden:

Gefaerbt habe ich am Freitagabend allerdings ein dunkleres Rot als ich hier gezeigt hatte, da es mir nicht gelungen ist, dieses nachzufaerben bzw. ich den Fehler gemacht hatte, den Versuch auf Kammzug zu faerben, der Farbe natuerlich ganz anders annimmt als Garn. Ich habe zwei Durchgaenge hintereinander gefaerbt und die gleiche Farbzusammenstellung genommen. Trotzdem sind beide so unterschiedlich geworden und ich kann mir nicht ganz genau erklaeren, woran es liegt. Bloederweise gefaellt mir der Strang aus dem 2. Durchgang noch besser und ich weiss noch nicht genau, ob ich das wieder so hinkriege und es nachfaerben koennte.
I dyed Friday night and I did a darker red than I showed in this post because I couldn’t re-dye it in the way or better I made the mistake to try the re-dye on roving instead of yarn which always turns out in a different way than yarn does. I did 2 dye lots with the same colour mixture and the second lot is a lot different from the first one. I can’t really explain it but unfortunately I like this skein better. I have to try if I can re-dye it.

Eine Maschenprobe mit dem Garn aus dem 1. Durchgang habe ich auch schon gestrickt und mir gefaellt es sehr gut wie es verstrickt aussieht.
I already knitted a gauge swatch with the yarn from the first lot and I really like it how it knits up.

Ich habe die neon-gruene Sockenwolle angestrickt 🙂 Das sind meine ersten Toe up Socken und da ich offensichtlich genug Wolle habe, werden es eventuell sogar Kniestruempfe. (Nein, ich habe keine 3 Beine, das ist ein und die selbe Socke 😉 )
I casted on with the green sock yarn. These are my first toe up socks and it looks like that I’ll have enough yarn to make knee highs. (No, I don’t have 3 legs, it’s always the same sock 😉 )
